Should I Consider Seeking Therapy?

Mar 28, 2022 | Therapy

Do you assume that something bad has happened when a friend of yours tells you that they go to therapy? Well, we hate to break it to you, but there could be so many reasons to go to therapy, and therapy is not only beneficial when you’re in crisis. Therapy isn’t just for people with problems.

Should I Consider Seeking Therapy?

A BIG YES because:

Therapy Is for Everyone

Going to therapy doesn’t automatically mean you’re in crisis or you have a mental health disorder. It doesn’t always mean that there is something wrong. But at the same time, no one is less or more deserving of therapy. There are no specific problems in life that make it more or less deserving of therapy. Everyone deserves therapy.

Therapy is also considered a basic human right, so anyone has the right to therapy. Its goal is to help every single one of us with every aspect of our lives, from something that seems to be nothing to the most disappointing.

Therapy Is A Self-Care

Therapy is a form of self-care because it helps uncover the root of your problems. And this is self-care. You get to handle your issues by either taking a break, healing, or, in this case, empowering yourselves by expressing who you really are.

Most importantly, therapy is self-care because you acknowledge your mental health. You take care of your mental health equally as you do your physical health.

Therapy Is Not A Weapon

Stop weaponizing therapy by using “You need therapy” as an insult. Many of us will be needing therapy in the future, but you don’t have to be needing therapy to go to one because therapy is like your monthly or yearly physical checkup but in mental health form. So stop. Do not use therapy as a weapon of insult. End the stigma.

Therapy Is A Safe Space

For example, you’ve been suffering from having a hard time coming out. In therapy, you are free to express anything; no judgements, just pure acceptance. This is a safe space. You can be as authentic as you want to be. As vulnerable as you want to be, without worrying about any bashing or judgment from your therapist. Therapists are always all ears for their clients.

Therapy Has Benefits For You

Seeking therapy has three benefits for you. Here are just a few things that you might want to consider:

    • Helps people with their problems (such as depression, anxiety, obsessions and compulsions)
    • Help with relationships
    • Provides support even when there’s no problem

Remember, therapy isn’t a dirty word or something you should hide from. It is totally normal and okay to see a therapist no matter what you are going through. Stop assuming the worst when you hear someone is going to therapy. Going to therapy does not always mean something is wrong.
