How to Find Inner Peace in Times of Stress?

Jul 11, 2022 | Mental Health

Every day, we are exposed to new depressing information. And it seems like ever since COVID came into our lives, we haven’t been able to leave this time of stress. Maybe it has come to the point that you’ve been asking yourself when you’ll be able to have your own inner peace, or more like you’re asking…

“How can I find inner peace in times of stress?”

Before we get to that point, let us explore and understand first what inner peace really is.

What is Inner Peace?

Most of the time, each one of us has our own concept of peace. For someone like you, who is already tired of stressors in life, inner peace for you is a state in your life where there is no potential presence of stressors. But let me tell you an interesting fact: inner peace is actually the other way around. When you have inner peace, regardless of what circumstance you’re in or whatever negativity you are facing, you’ll still feel the inner state of tranquility.

5 Most Common Phrases Inner Peace Thieves Will Say to You

There are times when having inner peace is out of our hands when it is the people around us who disrupt the peace we are having. And most of the time we are aware of these, we keep on thinking that there is something wrong with us when, in reality, the problem is the people around us. So to keep or achieve that inner peace, here is what you need to look out for in the people around you. If you hear them say these lines to you, for sure, they are an inner peace thief!

1. “I have a favor again. Can you do this for me?”

This phrase is not harmful at first, but if it becomes too much already, that’s where they steal your peace.

2. “You’re overreacting!”

Not letting you process what you feel but letting you feel that you’re not allowed to process your big feelings.

3. “I am not the one with the problem, you are!”

Putting blame on you all the time and making you question yourself.

4. “You’re disrupting everyone’s peace!!!”

They are projecting their own problematic and chaotic behavior onto you.

5. *shouts at you*

Anyone who shouts at you is already stealing your inner peace, especially when they can just talk to you calmly.

How to Find Inner Peace in Times of Stress?

Now that you know what inner peace is and what an inner peace thief says to you, let me tell you now how you can find your inner peace in times of stress. We don’t know when another massive stressful event will happen in our world or even just in your own life.

1. Keep your boundaries.

Your boundaries will not only protect your peace, but they’ll also protect your time, energy, values, self-worth, and self-respect.

2. Take Responsibility for Your Actions.

Keep in mind that these are YOUR actions. Not other people’s. Because doing this will keep your mind at peace that you’ve already done your part.

3. Spend time with nature.

Nothing beats enjoying your own solitude. So go! Have a picnic by yourself or go hiking!

4. Practice Acceptance and Contentment

As we defined inner peace, you should accept that stressors will always be present. What you need is to learn how you’ll deal with them with contentment and acceptance.

5. Don’t forget to love yourself.

Practice self-care. Look after yourself not only physically and socially, but also mentally. So, don’t be afraid to seek a mental health check-up; it’s completely normal, just like getting a physical check-up. Feel free to message us here to learn more about this.
