“It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.”
~~Batman
“Greetings! I’m Ronda Shirley, and I’m a superhero. Yes, you read that correctly. I know that you are looking for a therapist. I’m a therapist AND a superhero. You know all of them don’t come from Marvel or DC Comics. I imagine that you’re looking for me to provide you this list of degrees that I have, the schools that gave them to me and how amazingly brilliant I am as a result of my level of education. Nope. I’m not going to do it. I’m not going to tell you about my “theory of change”, the multitude of mental imbalances that I provide services or the collective of people who I serve. Uh uh. I’m not going to tell you any of that stuff. And do you know WHY I’m not going to tell you that stuff? It’s because you really don’t care. You want to know how I can help you have some peace, right? Me providing you peace cannot be found in my schooling. Do you know where it can be found? It can be found in the fact that I’m a superhero.
My superpower is that I help people to move beyond their fear responses. Yeah, “fear responses” are a whole thing! Soooo what is a “fear response”? I’m glad that you asked! A fear response is a way we respond to a thing when we are afraid or uncomfortable. We process danger and discomfort in much the same way. There are 4 types of fear responses. They are:
- Fight
- Flight
- Freeze
- Fawn
The 1st fear response is “fight”. When we operate from the fear response of fight, we find ourselves being defensive, aggressive and combative. The 2nd fear response is “flight”. When we operate from the fear response of flight, everything that becomes uncomfortable or unfamiliar we run away from. The 3rd fear response is “freeze”. When we operate from the fear response of “freeze”, we find ourselves stuck. We don’t know which direction to move. As a result, we don’t move at all. The 4th and final fear response is “fawning”. “Fawning” is when we begin to show ourselves as being unthreatening. This response manifest in us being people pleasers and setting ourselves in spaces where we are beneath those around us. Neither of these responses is better or worse than the other. They each prevent us from being our best selves and operating in light as opposed to fear. They make it all but impossible to have healthy, whole, and fulfilling relationships.
Allow me to help you to move into the light of your superpower.”

“Hello, I am Deon Clark! I am a man of GOD, husband, and father to a wonderful family that I cannot imagine not being by my side. I have experience in mental health, substance abuse, developmental disabilities, and case management. To say I have worked in many different programs is an understatement. Being able to make someone’s day better by simply being courteous is always a blessing. I am here to assist with the healing process/journey and know the team will provide the most professional and courteous experience for everyone.
Being the first point of contact with everyone pushes me to be the most joyful person to not only brighten the room but the day as well. Being able to make the visit as pleasant as possible is always a plus. I have an Associate Degree in Health care Administration/Medical records and my Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services. No matter the magnitude in which I help, just knowing I am part of the process makes a difference.”
